TERMS OF TRAVEL FOR ALL LINDA LINE PASSENGERS

Current terms of travel are valid for all bookings and tickets. Terms of travel are valid until the next update. Linda Line reserves all rights to change the timetable and prices without prior notification. Passengers are obliged to follow the rules established by Linda Line and the instructions of captain on the vessel. Linda Line and its representatives reserve the right to prevent boarding of passengers who may cause disruptions and/or endanger other passengers, themselves or onboard safety.

Traffic depends on weather. In case of a cancellation due to bad weather conditions passengers have the option to choose between the following:

  1. The ticket can be used according to the instructions given by Linda Line on other contractual ships (reservations cannot be made before the official cancellation announcement). Starting from 1.09.2011 Linda Line will change the rules for transfer on contractual ships. All tourist class passengers must pay 10 EUR extra per passenger in case of transfer. In case of special offer one must follow the terms and additional charge may apply.
  2. The ticket of a cancelled departure can be used on Linda Line vessels until the end of the season (tickets bought after 1.10, which remain unused due to cancellations, can be used until 31.05 in the following year on Linda Line’s vessels).
  3. The ticket of a cancelled departure can be fully refunded upon request (the original unused ticket must be returned to Linda Line’s office within 1 month from the original departure).

Linda Line is not responsible for additional charges and/or loss of income that are caused to the passenger due to weather or force majeure cancellation (technical reasons, strike, etc.). Passenger should follow the additional rules of special offers. If there are additional services included (e.g. food, drink) they will not be compensated on contractual ships. Linda Line recommends for all passengers to take travel insurance, incl. insurance for cancellation fee.

All passengers are obligated to follow these terms of travel. When booking or buying a ticket the passenger commits to obey the following rules:

1.1.Booking and buying a ticket

Individual reservation

Reservations can be made by telephone +358 600 0668 970 (1.64 €/answered call + lnt/mnt) (Finland) or +372 6 999 333 (Estonia), through the Internet at www.lindaline.fi / www.lindaliini.ee or via e-mail sales@lindaline.fi (Finland) or info@lindaliini.ee (Estonia). Booking is free of charge for all passengers. The lowest prices and special offers can be found online www.lindaline.fi / www.lindaliini.ee. When reserving a trip it is important to provide the following information: direction or directions of travel the date and time of departure the names of passengers gender date of birth nationality preferably a mobile telephone number as a contact number. Reservation number is needed when buying a ticket from the terminal. If a reservation or ticket is paid less than 24 hours prior to the departure an additional charge of 5 € per reservation/ticket will be added only in Helsinki. The ticket should be paid at the latest 1 hour before the departure. If the reservation has not been paid for by the agreed time, the company reserves the right to cancel the reservation without any prior notification to the client.

Serial ticket

Serial ticket holders can make reservations by telephone +358 9 668 97050 (Finland) or +372 6999 333 (Estonia) or through the Internet at www.lindaline.fi or www.lindaliini.ee. The check-in has to be made at the latest 30 minutes before the departure. Once reservation is made but the ticket is not checked-in before the agreed time a trip will be automatically charged from the serial ticket. If the passenger decides not to travel, the cancellation has to be made at the latest 2 hours before the departure. Economy serial ticket is valid only for specific departures from Helsinki and from Tallinn (please read the special terms of travel). Serial ticket owner is obligated to present the serial ticket in the terminal in order to get a ticket and check-in card.

Group reservations and hotel packages

Group reservations (min 10 persons) have to be sent by e-mail groups@lindaline.fi (Finland) or grupid@lindaliini.ee. For more information please contact Linda Line´s group department by telephone +358 9 668 97040 (Finland) or +372 6 999 333 (Estonia). We recommend making a booking well in advance. Only one discount is valid at a time. List of passengers has to be sent at the latest 1 week before departure. If a group has a hotel package, the list of passengers has to be sent at the latest 2 weeks before departure. All passengers of the group have to travel on the same departures.

Prepayment of 10 € per person for regular route trips and 30 € per person for hotel trips will be charged in advance. If the prepayment has not been paid for by the agreed time, the company reserves the right to cancel the reservation without any prior notification to the client. Terms for changing and cancelling the trip depend on the departure time and the group size. These terms are available from group department. Group reservations should be paid at the latest 28 days before the planned departure. If a reservation has been made later than 28 days prior to the departure, the booking has to be paid immediately. Group reservations cannot be changed or refunded less than 28 days before departure. If the reservation involves one of Linda Line’s external partners such as a hotel etc., cancellation terms of each partner will be applied together.

Youth groups under age of 18 are required to present a written consent by a parent or a guardian (separate consent for each minor). A blank form of this consent can be found on our website.

Bookings and tickets can be collected only from Linda Line’s terminals or Linda Line’s sales points in Helsinki and Tallinn (also from the Internet). For boarding the vessel one must present check-in card. We recommend for all passengers to be in the terminal on time, at the latest 1 hour before the departure. Please also take into consideration possible queues at the terminal during check-in.

1.2. Terms for changing reservations and tickets (does not concern special offers)

Reservations can be changed and cancelled from Mon-Fri from 9:00-17:00. A ticket can be splitted into separate tickets with different departure times only from Mon-Fri from 9:00-17:00.

Individual reservation

Tickets and bookings must be changed no later than 48 hours prior to the departure. Changes to tickets and bookings are not allowed less than 48 hours prior to the departure. In case of a return ticket, the date and time of the first departure is taken into consideration. Changes can be made to the date and time of the departure, number of passengers and name, date of birth etc. of passengers. Upon changing a ticket the client is required to pay for a possible price difference. Upon changing a ticket to a cheaper departure, the price difference will not be refunded. Ticket can be changed two times. The charge of changing a ticket in any way is 3€ per change. When separating a ticket the original ticket must be shown at the ticket office and all passengers who are travelling with the original ticket must be present at Linda Line’s office. To avoid any possible problems we recommend all passengers to buy for each person separate ticket. To change an online reservation, please contact ticket office. Original ticket date and time of the journey will be taken into consideration when changing ticket/reservation.

Serial ticket

When the serial ticket holder reserves a trip or acquires a ticket, passport or identity card must be presented with the serial ticket. Changes to a booking must be made at the latest 2 hours prior to the departure. If the card holder has not changed or cancelled the trip prior to the departure, the trip will be charged from the serial ticket automatically. After a ticket is printed out, passenger data cannot be changed anymore on that ticket. Linda Line reserves the right to prevent boarding of passengers who have presented false information during the check-in.

Groups and hotel packages

All changes have to be made at the latest 28 days before departure. Changes to the passenger list and passenger details can be done only before the check-in. For bigger groups special terms for changing the ticket and for splitting the ticket is available from group department. Group department is open from Mon-Fri from 9:00-17:00. All requests concerning groups should be sent in written form to ryhmat@lindaline.fi or grupid@lindaliini.ee . Upon changing a ticket the client is required to pay for a possible price difference. Upon changing a ticket to a cheaper departure, the price difference will not be refunded. Group tickets can be changed only more than 28 days before the departure. Original ticket date and time of the journey will be considered when changing ticket/reservation.

1.3 Ticket refund

Passengers are required to find out which documents are needed for travelling and are also responsible for having all the required documents with them. If the trip is cancelled due to problems with the travel documents (passport, id-card, visa), the tickets will not be refunded. Passengers are also responsible for paying for any extra cost due to problems with travel documents. Linda Line recommends for all passengers to have travel insurance, incl. cancellation insurance. In case of a ticket refund the original time and date of the departure is considered.

1.3.1 Individual ticket refund (can be different for special offers):

1.3.2 Serial tickets and trips that have bought with serial ticket will not be refunded.

1.3.3 Group tickets, regular line services and hotel trips (min. 10 persons) also individual hotel trips

1.4. Unused ticket

If a ticket is not used on the departure that is marked on it or the ticket is not changed before the departure, then it will lose its validity. Later complaints are not taken into account. In case of an illness the ticket must be changed to another date and/or time before the original departure. If the client is confronted by unexpected, serious situation (illness, accident etc.) and the trip is cancelled or changed by the client, Linda Line has to be informed about this immediately. Inability to travel must be proved with a reliable certificate, for example with a health certificate. Handling fee is 10 € per person for regular line services or 30 € per person for hotel trips. A ticket that is bought with a serial ticket will lose its validity. Linda Line recommends for all passengers to take a travel insurance, incl. cancellation insurance, to avoid possible extra charges.

1.5. Lost ticket

Lost tickets can be replaced by a new ticket by paying extra fee of 10 € per person and presenting the documents of all the passengers at the same ticket to the office. Group tickets cannot be replaced.

2. Check-in

Individual passengers

In the process of check in, passengers must show their identification (passport or id-card). Check in starts in the morning of the day of departure 1 hour before the first scheduled departure time in Helsinki or in Tallinn. Passengers must be at the terminal at the latest 1 hour before departure. After checking in the ticket boarding cards are provided for all passengers. Boarding cards are valid only on the departure marked on them. Lost boarding cards cannot be replaced and the passenger is required to buy a new ticket. Boarding ends 15 minutes before departure. Linda Line reserves the right to resell tickets that are not checked in before the agreed time. Check-in can be done in all sales points in Helsinki and Tallinn. Linda Line reserves the right to check travel documents for all passengers before boarding. All passengers have to go through check-in (incl. small children, pets, and bicycles). Children under 12 years are not permitted to travel alone on our vessels. Children 13-17 years of age need to show a written consent by a parent or guardian when travelling without an adult.

Serial ticket

Serial ticket owners are obligated to present their travel document and their serial ticket to the office when checking in. Check-in has to be made at the latest 45 minutes prior to the departure. Lost boarding cards cannot be replaced and the passenger is obligated to buy a new ticket. Please be in the terminal well before the departure and take into consideration possible queues.

Groups

We recommend all passengers to check in on time, at the latest 1 hour before departure. Check in can be made starting from the morning of departure. Group leader can check in the whole group at once. Group leader must have a list of all passengers (all passengers’ names, date of births and nationalities). In case one loses boarding card new ticket must be purchased.

3. Passport and visa

Estonian citizens must have valid travel document with them when travelling abroad (Estonian passport, idcard, diplomat passport). Driving license, health insurance certificate or Kela (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland) card are not official travel documents. Foreign passengers must have a valid travel document issued by their own country of residence. Estonian citizens do not need visa when travelling to Finland. Passengers are responsible for having all the required documents with them. If the trip is cancelled due to problems with travel documents (passport, id-card, visa), the tickets will not be refundable. Passengers are responsible for any extra cost, which can occur due to problems with travel documents. More information from the Foreign Ministry of Estonia: www.vm.ee. Finnish citizens must have a valid travel document (Finnish passport or id-card with a picture that is authorised by Finnish police and issued after 1.3.1999). Finnish citizens do not need visa when travelling to Estonia. Driving license or Kela (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland) card is not an official travel document. Children must have their own separate travel document while travelling.

4. Cancellation of departure

Linda Line assumes no responsibility for costs caused by possible schedule changes or cancellations due to weather conditions or other force majeure (technical reasons, strike, etc.). Linda Line is not responsible for possible extra cost or loss of income caused to the passenger due to weather or force majeure reasons. Linda Line’s captains reserve the right to cancel a departure at the latest 1 hour and 30 minutes before a departure. In case of cancellation Linda Line will send text messages to all passengers. We also recommend all passengers to call to Linda Line’s office or check Linda Line’s web page for more news before their departure. If a departure is cancelled due to bad weather conditions (wind of over 15 m/s and/or waves of over 3 meters) or due to technical reasons, the ticket can be used according to the instructions provided by ticket office:

5. Serial ticket

Serial tickets are valid solely on Linda Line’s vessels. General terms are also applied for serial ticket owners. Special conditions for serial ticket owners:

5.1 Cancellation of departure

In case of a cancelled trip due to bad weather conditions or other circumstances not dependent on Linda Line (force majeure), the trip will not be charged from the serial card. This trip can be used later on Linda Line’s vessels. A passenger with reservation on serial ticket may be directed to another contractual ship (depending on the reservation situation on contractual lines). Serial ticket has to be first registered in Linda Line’s ticket office and only then a passenger is able to go on board the contractual ships. After that the passenger must check in at the contractual ship’s terminal. Linda and Vip-class tickets can not be used in other companies’ business class. Economy serial card holders can be directed to another contractual ship, when paying 10 euros extra fee at Linda Line’s ticket office. Transfer requires a reservation made in advance on the serial card to the cancelled departure. Cancelled trips will not be refunded.

5.2. Lost serial ticket

In case of a lost serial ticket, the card holder must contact Linda Line immediately. Owner has to go to the Linda Line's ticket office and fill in a corresponding form, notifying the company that they have lost their serial ticket or that it was stolen. The owner can submit this application only after showing their identification. The owner of the lost/stolen serial ticket can obtain a new one for 10 €. This new serial ticket includes trips that were still unused on the lost/stolen serial ticket. Serial card is valid 2 years from the original purchasing day of the lost/stolen serial ticket. The applications are processed only Mon-Fri and a new serial ticket will be issued to the owner of the lost/stolen serial ticket after two business days. Linda Line is not responsible for possible misuse of lost/stolen serial ticket.

6. Security/passenger obligations

Passengers are obliged to comply with rules established by Linda Line and the instructions of the ship’s captain. Linda Line and its representatives reserve the right to prevent boarding of passengers who may cause disruptions and endanger other passengers, themselves or onboard safety. Linda Line’s personnel have the right to deny boarding passengers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol and whose behaviour is disruptive or dangerous or who do not comply with the rules established by Linda Line. Linda Line shall not refund tickets for passengers who do not travel due to their fault for any of the above reasons. It is prohibited to drink alcohol purchased on land or from the ship’s store and to smoke in non-smoking areas onboard the ship, or enter employees-only areas without authorization (bridge, engine room, aft deck etc.). Linda Line’s personnel has the right to deny serving passengers in Vip-class, ship’s bar or passenger lounge if these passengers are under the influence of drugs or alcohol and whose behaviour is disruptive or dangerous.

7. Pet

Pets must be transported on Linda Line vessels only under the supervision of their guardian, in a cage or with a muzzle and only in tourist class. Separate ticket must be purchased for a pet. Pets without a cage or muzzle are not allowed on board. Passengers must make sure that their pets do not endanger other passengers, the crew or safety onboard the ship. Guide dogs for the visually impaired passengers can travel for free. Passengers must ensure they have the necessary documents for pets (incl. Guide dogs for the visually impaired passengers). Linda Line shall not refund tickets for passengers who are unable to make the trip due to improper or missing documents or due to missing cage or muzzle. Linda Line reserves the right to charge 100 euros, if pets are transported on Linda Lines vessels without a ticket.

8. Passengers with disabilities, including visual and auditory impairments

To ensure safety, we recommend that disabled, visually or hearing impaired passengers and anyone else requiring a guide to travel only in the company of a guide (inform check in at the port if there is no guide). Guide dogs for the visually impaired passengers can travel for free. Linda Line vessels have inva-toilets and passengers with wheelchair have the possibility to access our vessels. For safety reasons it is recommended to consult a doctor before travelling in the final stage of pregnancy (last 3 months).

9. Methods of payment

In Tallinn’s Linnahall ticket office it is possible to pay in Euros. Also the following card payments are possible: all Estonian bank cards, VISA, Maestro, Mastercard, Eurocard and Visa Electron, American Express, Diners Club. In Tallinn’s Kaubamaja sales point it is possible to pay in Euros. Also the following card payments are possible: all Estonian bank cards, VISA, Maestro, Mastercard, Eurocard and Visa Electron, American Express, Diners Club. In Linnahall terminal shop and bar it is possible to pay in Estonian kroons (until 15.01.2011) and Euros. Also the following card payments are possible: all Estonian bank cards, VISA, Maestro, Mastercard, Eurocard and Visa Electron, American Express, Diners Club. Aboard all Linda Line’s vessels it is possible to pay in Euros. Also the following card payments are possible: all Estonian bank cards, VISA, Maestro, Mastercard, Eurocard and Visa Electron, American Express, Diners Club. The bank terminals aboard the vessels operate in the mobile phone network, therefore some errors in payment may occur. In Helsinki Makasiiniterminal ticket office it is possible to pay in Euros. Also the following card payments are possible: Finnish bank cards, American Express, Diners Club, VISA, Eurocard, Mastercard, Maestro and Visa Electron.

10. Feedback

Client has the possibility to send feedback in written form to the following e-mail addresses: palautteet@lindaline.fi or ettepanek@lindaliini.ee. Feedback can also be sent from our web page www.lindaline.fi or www.lindaliini.ee. Feedback must be sent no later than 1 month after departure date. Feedback will be responded to at the latest 2 weeks after receiving it.

11. Lost belongings

We deliver lost belongings once a week to Suomen löytötavaratoimisto (lost and found-office). The office is located in the shopping mall “Kamppi” (on a street level, office called NARINKKA 3). These belongings can be queried from a telephone number +358 600 04401. Belongings are kept there for 3 months.

12. Parking

In front of the Makasiini terminal in Helsinki there is a parking lot (max. 48 hours). Parking is for an extra fee; tickets can be bought from an automat (we recommend to use Euro coins). For long-term parking we recommend Europark P-Tähtitorninvuori parking (address : Laivasillankatu 20, tel +358 9 6969 3000). Linda Line’s serial ticket clients get -15 % discount for parking in P-Tähtitorninvuori. A serial ticket has to be registered when paying. Other Linda Line’s clients get -10% discount for parking in P-Tähtitorninvuori. Discount tickets are available in Linda Line’s check-in office. In Linnahalli port there are limited parking places available free of charge for max. 15 minutes in front of the terminal. For longer parking there is a parking lot behind the Linnahalli terminal. The parking lot is unguarded and free of charge.

13. Time difference

There is no time difference between Finland and Estonia. The time is +2 hours GMT in both countries.

14. Ports and terminals

Linda Line’s vessels depart in Helsinki from Makasiini terminal, South Port and in Tallinn from Linnahalli port. You can also find our main sales point in both of the terminals. Both of the ports are only a few minutes walk away from the city centre.

15. Age limits

Children under 13 years are not permitted to travel on our vessels without an adult. Children aged 13-17 years need a written permission with them signed by a parent or a guardian. Permission must be shown in the check-in.

16. Gift certificate

When reserving a trip, please inform us about the gift certificate in the beginning of the booking process. The certificate is valid only according to the terms and duration written on the certificate. This duration cannot be prolonged and a lost gift certificate will not be replaced. Gift certificates are non-refundable and can not be used on contractual ships of Linda Line. If a cancellation occurs, gift voucher can be used on Linda Line’s vessels later on during the season.

17. Currency

Starting from 15.1.2010 Euros will be the only accepted currency.

CONDITIONS OF CARRIAGE

1. Contract of carriage and subjects thereof

The contract of carriage described in these rules and comprising the ticket is concluded between Linda Line and the passenger. Linda Line does not carry cargo nor does it accept valuables (money, securities, gold, silver, precious stones, art-work etc.) for safekeeping.

2. Applicable law

The contract of carriage is controlled by the provisions of either the Estonian merchant shipping act or the Finnish Maritime Code, depending which act is in force at the place of the authorized legal venue. If no law’s provisions have obligatory force in the authorized court with regard to these rules, the provisions of the 1974 Athens Convention shall be applied to the contract of carriage, as amended by the protocol of 29 March 1990, pertaining to the sea transport of passengers and baggage.

3. Resolution of disputes

Difference of opinion pertaining to the contract of carriage shall be resolved by way of negotiations. In the event that the parties do not reach agreement in these issues, disputes will be resolved in the judicial bodies of the defendant’s home country or in a venue agreed by the parties. If the Athens Convention is to be applied based on the above with regard to the contract of carriage, the dispute can be resolved, if the plaintiff so chooses, in a court determined pursuant to article 17, clause 1 (b) and (c).

4. Scope of application

In transporting passengers and their baggage, the requirements of the contract of carriage and applicable law shall be applied. Maritime transportation includes the time that passengers and their baggage are in the carrier’s departure terminal, on the ship or carrier’s arrival terminal.

5. Tickets and the ship

The ticket which is indicating the existence of a contract of carriage must be presented to ticket inspection in the carrier’s terminal at the port of departure. The carrier is not obliged to refund the price of a stolen, lost or destroyed ticket. In other cases, the general terms listed in the regulations apply; they are posted onboard the ship, at Linda Line ticket office and on the Internet www.lindaline.fi and www.lindaliini.ee. The rights of passengers as well as that of the carrier to cancel the contract of carriage are specified by applicable law. The carrier has the right to use other ships for carriage besides the one listed on the ticket.

6. Restrictions on baggage

Each passenger may carry on baggage measuring 80 x 50 x 100 cm or with corresponding proportions whose weight does not exceed:

Tourist class, adults: 20 kg.

Tourist class, children 5-17 y.: 10 kg.

Tourist class, childer under 5 y.: 0 kg.

Linda-class, adults: 30 kg.

Linda-class, children 0-17y.: 15 kg.

VIP-class, adults: 40 kg.

VIP-class, children: 25 kg.

Overweight baggage is subject to additional charges as follows (each additional 10 kg = 10 €):

Tourist class, adults: up to 20 kg = free, 20-30 kg = 10 €, 30-40 kg = 20 €, 40-50 kg = 30 €, etc.

Tourist class, children 5-17 y.: up to 10 kg = free, 10-20 kg = 10 €, 20-30 kg = 20 €, 30-40 kg = 30 €, etc.

Linda-class, adults: up to 30 kg = free, 30-40 kg = 10 €, 40-50 kg = 20 €, 50-60 kg = 30 €, etc.

Linda-class, children 0-17y.: up to 15 kg = free, 15-25 kg = 10 €, 25-35 kg = 20 €, 35-45 kg = 30 €, etc.

VIP-class, adults: up to 40 kg = free, 40 -50 kg = 10 €, 50 - 60 kg = 20 €, 60 - 70 kg = 30 €, etc.

VIP-class, children: up to 25 kg = free, 25-35 kg = 10 €, 35-45 kg = 20€, 45-55 kg = 30€, etc.

The following baggage is not weighted: handbags, umbrellas, baby carriers or baby bags, baby carriages and carts, walking sticks and crutches and wheelchairs. It is prohibited for passengers to bring to the terminal or onboard the ship baggage that is dangerous or disruptive to others or their baggage or to the terminal, including flammable or explosive goods, firearms or weapons. The carrier has the right to move such baggage to the land, make it harmless or destroy it at the passenger’s expense and without bearing any obligation of reimbursement. For security reasons, the carrier has the right to search passengers hand luggage and other bags at the terminal and on board.

7. Carrier’s liability

Carrier’s liability shall be determined in accordance with applicable law, and it is limited by the provisions of applicable law or the Athens convention along with its protocols. The carrier shall not be held liable for the expenses due to damage, death or lateness incurred by passengers or their baggage before the beginning or after the end of the voyage specified in clause 4.

8. Liability of persons, agents and independent contractual partners in the service of the carrier

These persons have equal rights to the freedom and restriction of liability on the basis of the contract of carriage and the legal acts applicable pursuant to clause 2. The liability of the carrier and these persons may not exceed the upper limit set forth in the contract of carriage and applicable law pursuant to clause 2.
